Guys, you can look your best as well. Skin peels are not just for women. They are worth it. Try them out and see if you get the results you are looking for.

If you want to glow, radiant skin as well as looking youthful then this is possible with a peel. Guys, you might not know exactly which treatments are going to have the best results on your skin.

To help you to figure out what to try, we have put together our guide to peels and whether or not they are worth having yourself.

What are skin peels?

Back in the 90s skin peels were all the rage. However, whilst they may have been around for some time, this doesn’t mean that they are outdated in any way. In fact, the truth is that chemical peels have been around for such a long time because they really work.

Take exfoliating products; apply them to the skin, this will help to even out the texture of the skin, as well as make sure that all the dead skin and cell build-up is removed too.

Will they work for men?

So, the next question is whether or not they will work for men? The concern for many men is that because they have thicker skin, this could mean that they are not going to see the same results.

However, this is not the case. In fact, skin peels for men will help to do all the things that they do for women. However, men may find that they have to book in for one a month. That way, their skin can feel the maximum benefit.

What are the benefits?

So guys, if you try out a chemical skin peel for yourself, then this is what you can expect to happen?

The main benefit for having them is that it will ensure that your skin texture is as evened out as possible.

It will also help to prevent any breakouts that might happen on your skin. It will help with those signs of ageing that can occur over time. Other great things about having a peel are that they can make sure that your skin maintains its youthful look. It can even help with reducing the risk of ingrown hairs as it helps to unclog your pores.

So consider all of the things that happen every single day which dry out your skin and make it look dull and tired. A regular skin peel can help.

So, what are you waiting for? Why not try out skin peels for yourself? This treatment is going to help you to have amazing looking skin, skin that even the women in your life are going to be jealous of.

To book in for your skin peel call Skinic on 0115 7847128 for an appointment.

How to look after your beard

Male trimmer his beard - Skinic Male Aesthetic Clinic

When it comes to beards, many people seem to think that they are grown due to a lack of personal grooming. A lack of desire to want to look after your appearance. However, if you ask someone who has a beard how much care it takes to keep it looking neat and tidy, then they are likely to tell you that beard care is serious business.

In fact, a beautifully kept beard is going to take some daily care. This means that you are going to need to get yourself into some kind of beard care routine. To help you to figure out how best to approach everyday beard care, we have put together our guide on how to look after your beard every single day.

Use of beard Oil

If there is no other beard product that you use on a daily basis, then make sure that you use beard oil. Beard oil is a great way to ensure that your beard hair has the same level of oil on it as the rest of your face. To create a beard that is soft and smooth and ensure that it is not itchy in any way. It repairs any beard hair that has become damaged and will ensure that your beard looks shiny and supple rather than greasy.

It is best used straight after a shower and you only need a few drops on your palm before rubbing this through your beard with your fingers.

Comb your beard

Another must-have when it comes to your beard is to make sure that you comb it every single day. Generally, this is often good to do before you apply the beard oil. However, if you feel that it gets extra tangled, then you might want to apply your beard oil and then comb it through to maximise the ease at which you can do this.

You may also want to get used to carrying a comb with you whilst you are out and about just to tackle any rogue tangles that may develop during the day.

Try out balm

If you are someone who tries to style and shape their beard, then the best way to do this is to use a suitable product. There are a number of beard products out there that you can try and use. The best one to try out for yourself is beard balm. Not only is beard balm great for making sure that your beard looks amazing, but it is also designed to add scent to your beard too.

The main thing to remember is that if you want a beard that looks amazing, then you are going to need to put the effort in to make sure that is taken proper care of. Whether this is a simple application of beard oil or something even more, then make the effort and you will be rewarded. Incorporate these with general skin for a great look.

Manscaping

Man having manscaping carried out
Skinic Manscaping

The term ‘manscaping’ conjures up all sorts of impressions and it can be slightly confusing as to what it actually means…

So let’s start with a definition of manscaping. Most internet searches come up with as “the removal or trimming of hair on a man’s body for cosmetic effect.” Well in a sense that true.

However, there are two types of temporary hair removal; waxing and manscaping!

So, guys, manscaping is the trimming of body hair to reduce the overall length and to improve the appearance and give you a much more ‘groomed’ look to the area. Some guys that are particular hairy don’t necessarily want to remove all the hair in all of the areas of manscaping is often a popular choice for legs, arms and the chest.

No matter how much hair you have, manscaping is probably something you’ve done. Or at least thought about it. These days, nobody part is off-limits. The way we manscape, too, is changing. The natural look is in and most men are just looking for ways to look trimmer and neater, and not the Ken doll smooth.

So just to clarify it’s not waxing. Clippers are use to reduce the hair length to the desired length for you guys. Some guys like it taken down to zero whilst others often want a more sculpted look with various lengths to define abs (yes we can do that) and show off muscle definition.

For guys with sensitive skin who find that waxing doesn’t work for them then manscaping is a much better option.

One of Skinic Male Aesthetic Clinic most popular waxing combos is our back waxing treatment with the chest and abs manascape!

So whatever area you need manscaped, trimmed down to zero or whatever length you require, our team will only be too happy to help.

Melanoma & Skin Cancer Early Detection

Skinic Male Aesthetic clinic is proud to be accredited by MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) Scheme. Awareness of the early signs and symptoms of Melanoma and Skin Cancer is a commonplace. With over 86% of all cases of melanoma being preventable.

MASCED Accredited logo

Men are twice as likely to die of skin cancer than women. Male skin cancer has double over the last 20 years. The reason for this is that men are in denial about the risk of sun exposure to their own skin and fail to use sun protection. Just look at guys on the building site in summer.

The World Health Organisation state that men take less protective measures than women. Guys are more likely to agree with the statement that ‘having a tan is sexy”

The link between attractiveness and tanning guys is something that needs to overcome when it comes to skin cancer. Skin cancer doesn’t discriminate. In fact, men under 49 are likely to develop melanoma than any other cancer. Guys, aged between 15 – 39 are 55% more likely to die of melanoma than women in the same age group.

As we see you guys on a regular basis, we have a unique opportunity to spot changes on your skin, especially in areas that you are not able to see yourselves. This puts us in a unique position where we can help to sport the early signs of Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection and have the ability to signpost you.

Skinic clinicians are trained in early detection and help you guys raise the awareness of early signs and symptoms of skin cancers.

So guys, if you are concerned with any mole that has changed in shape, size, appearance or, is itchy, sore or bleeds occasionally book in with us. We can provide an in-depth skin analysis and photos that allow you to record and monitor any further changes.

Hydrofacials for Men

The Benefits men are missing out on

Many men even to this day feel that facials and other cosmetic treatments are exclusively reserved for women. Unfortunately, there’s also a common stigma which revolves around such treatments. Guys we instantly have images where we are asked to sit in a robe, sip some cucumber water and listen to soft jazz music while their facial concoction is being prepared! So guys how about a Hydrofacial for men.

The truth is these skin treatments, particularly hydrofacials, are simply a way of cleansing the skin of unnecessary dirt, particles and toxins. Leaving it healthier and fresher than before. Healthy skin is attractive skin no matter how you look at it, so why would men not want to take advantage of it?

What is a Hydrofacial for Men?

Middle aged Male receiving Hydrofacial/hydrodermabrasion treatment
Male receiving Hydrofacial/hydrodermabrasion treatment

Hydrofacial involves a super-intense cleansing and extraction procedure. Together, with this combination of cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection, facial skin is left feeling fresher, healthier and cleaner than your normal soap and water. It’s easy to see how men can benefit from a hydrofacial. It provides the best of all worlds. That is, chemical peel, microdermabrasion and deep-cleansing facial. Therefore, the end result is reduced wrinkles and fine lines, and a much improved overall appearance. This is due to reduction of acne and hyperpigmentation, as well as congested and enlarged pores.

The best part is, hydrofacials for men can be customised according to age and skin type, so it’s a win-win, no matter how you look at it.

When your hydrafacial treatment is finished, your skin will be infused with health-promoting serums which are customised according to your skinic health demands.

At the end of the day, hydrofacial for men is suitable for all ages, skin types and skin issues.

The Benefits of Hydrofacial for Men

No matter what your age, skin type or potential skin issues, you can benefit from male hydrafacial treatment. With the results being immediate and consistent. In most cases, the treatment takes no more than 30 minutes. It may be a little longer, depending on whether you want to add LED therapy and microcurrent to the procedure. In any case, we recommend that you do as this will make the hydrofacial more effective.

Many men are taking advantage of hydrofacials. Particularly those who already suffer from some kind of facial skin problem. Such as dry, damaged or flaky skin due to acne, discoloration, shaving, dullness, clogged pores, wrinkles, fine lines, etc.

A male hydraofacial can help you overcome all these problems and even help you deal with excessively oily skin. A common condition many men have due to higher-than-normal testosterone levels.

Some men are hesitant to try out hydrofacials due to the misconceptions they have around them. Contrary to popular belief, the procedure is completely non-invasive and well-tolerated by most patients. In fact, it’s often a smoother experience than traditional facials where painful extractions are involved.

Many men have even reported hydrafacials for men as being a therapeutic treatment, saying that it feels like a light and relaxing facial massage.

Scalp Micropigmentation

Effective Solution to Male Hair Loss

Hair loss in men can lead to a variety of self-confidence and even emotional issues. It can affect not just how they see themselves physically, but also how they feel about themselves. But there is an effective solution to male hair loss.

Many men experience a loss in self-esteem and confidence due to hair loss and simply don’t feel as young or attractive as they used to. Even though there is a vast range of hair loss treatments for men. Today, many of them lead to health complications and often don’t offer feasible solutions.

Scalp Micropigmentation stands as one of the most effective hair loss treatments today. Here’s why it’s a safe, cost-effective and practical solution for men suffering from hair loss.

Scalp Micropigmentation – What is it?

Scalp micropigmentation is a highly nuanced hair treatment process which creates a very natural-looking simulation of micro-hair.

Image of Scalp Micropigmentation taking place
SMP in Progress

While microblading is a hair treatment done via a manual blade, micropigmentation is done with the help of an electric tattoo device. This allows the practitioner to easily penetrate skin.

The idea behind scalp micropigmentation is not to create hair-like lines as you typically would when getting your eyebrows done. But to use tiny, layered dots in varying tones of black in order to mimic the look of a “shadow” on your scalp. This style of concealing hair loss on your scalp is known as “pointillism”, which is done to create the illusion of natural-looking hair with depth and definition.

Your practitioner will ensure that all the dots look completely natural like your existing hair follicles and blend them in with your scalp’s texture and complexion. Scalp micropigmentation has proven very useful for people who are:

  • Completely bald
  • Suffering from regular hair loss or other conditions like alopecia
  • Hair loss due to cancer
  • Thinning hair
  • Male/female pattern baldness

Top Reasons Men Should Choose Scalp Micropigmentation for Hair Loss

It’s an affordable hair treatment

With a variety of hair loss treatments available today, most are very expensive and require regular follow-ups. Scalp micropigmentation, on the other hand, is a very affordable hair replacement treatment which offers immediate results. Furthermore, there’s no need for the almost endless post-treatment follow-ups, helping you save plenty of money.

Low maintenance hair treatments

If you Google any hair loss treatment today, you may find it surprising to know the sheer amount of maintenance required after only the first sitting. In fact, some require you to see your hair specialist every month – something which can prove to be expensive and very time-consuming. Scalp micropigmentation for men, however, is a permanent hair treatment solution which requires very little to no maintenance whatsoever.

A safe way to treat hair loss

Scalp micropigmentation does not involve the use of any harmful chemicals, which means side effects are minimal, if at all. There are no incisions involved either, which means the risk of infection is non-existent.  Men if you want an effective solution to male hair loss then look at Scalp Micropigmentation.

Top 3 Male Aesthetic Skin Treatments

Skincare treatments are just for women, you say? Long gone are those days! Men its time to takecare of your skin

More men today are realising the benefits of not just taking better care of their skin but especially male aesthetic treatments.

Damage from the sun, too much stress due to work and family, sleepiness nights and sometimes merely the age factor can bring about dramatic changes in a man’s skin tone, colour and texture. And this can often adversely affect confidence levels and even quality of life.

Here are some of the most popular male aesthetic skin treatments that men can benefit from:

Skin Needling

Male receiving skin needling on forehead

Unless you’ve been living in a shadowy part of the world for the last few years where the internet doesn’t exist, you’ve probably heard of Dermapen. This is a non-invasive and revolutionary skin needling treatment which rejuvenates and restores the skin’s original look and feel.

Skin needling is perfect for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Not only that but it repairs pigmentation and the effects of ageing skin due to sun damage. Furthermore, it can also improve elasticity, tighten the skin and shrink enlarged pores.

If you’ve ever wondered how your 35+ or even 45+ year old colleague has almost silky smooth and fresh-looking skin, then chances are they’ve taken advantage of skin needling at some point.

During a skin needling procedure, micro-needles penetrate the skin’s deeper layers, which triggers the body’s own natural healing mechanism. This stimulates new elastic and collagen formation. The end result is a much younger looking you, with firmer looking, more elastic skin, and practically no fine lines or wrinkles around the face.

Skin Peeling

Male receiving chemical peel

Blocked pores are one of the most cumbersome and nagging skincare problems men deal with. If these are not treated in time, then you may be looking at blackheads and acne breakouts.

While some men believe that simply giving their face a good scrub and wash each morning is all that’s needed. Often at times, dirt, grime and higher than normal oil production within the skin prevents the pores from staying clear. This is very important as your skin must breathe properly in order to stay healthy.

Skin peels are, therefore, very effective in treating any scarring and reducing the likelihood of acne breakouts. Two common issues men face due to picking blocked pores on their own. But that’s not all. Skin peels have proven to be a safe and effective way to renewing the skin, making it look fresh, healthy and youthful.

Skin Hydrofacial

Hydrofacials for men have often been dubbed as the best ‘overall treatment’ for men seeking a fresh and youthful look with confidence levels to boot!

This non-invasive skin surfacing and rejuvenation treatment combines a series of procedures such as cleaning, exfoliation, extraction and hydration. This leaves your skin looking really fresh, smooth and youthful – perfect for that upcoming wedding reception or business meeting.

Aesthetic pampering isn’t just for women; men too can try out a variety of treatments to look fresher and feel younger.  So men if you want to realising the benefits of just taking better care of your skin then consider male aesthetic treatments. Men it’s time to takecare of your skin.

Laser Hair Removal For Men

Everything you’ve always want to know

Some of us are just super-hairy cavemen. There’s nothing wrong with that – that’s just how we were ‘engineered’ and it’s important to appreciate what we have.

However, it’s fair to say that there can be embarrassing situations which we can all do without. Taking your shirt off at the beach or when walking towards the pool and all eyes are on you! Or even your spouse complaining that you’re a little too hairy for comfort!

Men’s hair removal is not something new. In fact, many men undergo regular treatments to get their bodies looking smooth and shiny. Great, if you’re already a gym-goer, because believe it or not, you’re really going to be turning heads the next time you take your shirt off at the beach.

Why men should groom their bodies

So what’s the best way for men to groom bodily hair? Shaving, trimming and waxing works but it can get uncomfortable and even irritate the skin while wearing certain kinds of clothes.

The answer is laser hair removal for men. Here’s what it is and how it works:

Male receiving under arm laser treatment for hair removal

Laser hair removal uses laser light technology where lasers emit pulses of light into the skin, effectively targeting the root and hair follicles. Once these two have been ‘zapped’, hair no longer grows back like it normally does after waxing or shaving. These results being permanent hair reduction.

Laser hair removal is now becoming more popular among men of all ages. With the chest, arms and back being popular areas. Although many men opt to have laser hair removal done on their legs and around private parts as well.

Men who feel uncomfortable with excess hair on their chest, stomach and back, or anywhere really, are ideal ‘candidates’ for laser hair removal. It’s important to quickly clear up a misconception when it comes to laser hair removal for men. That it leaves you completely hairless like a cover model. This simply isn’t true because the laser intensity can be adjusted to thin out body hair in order to make them finer and sparser – rather than zapping them into oblivion!

Is laser hair removal for men painful?

Not at all – unless you call a tingling and fuzzy sensation ‘painful’. With that said, men who have really coarse hair have reported a somewhat uncomfortable sensation, but that comes down to two things. Pain perception/tolerance and the way the laser is used. An experienced male aesthetic specialist will always use the laser in small bursts so that smaller chunks of energy rapidly target the area. You will literally feel no pain, other than a tingling sensation.

What areas can be treated?

Laser hair removal is effective in targeting any area of the body. Well, apart from the eyelids, that is, but then again, you need not worry about those anyway.

The most popular area among men are:

Male with half chest waxing and half smooth chest no hair
  • Stomach
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Neck
  • Backside
  • Groin
  • Between the eyebrows

However, you can also use laser hair removal to target areas around the ears, nose and bikini line.

Look Your Best After Lockdown

Look Your Best After Lockdown

Nobody can deny the last few months have been very strange indeed. The Covid-19 pandemic turned the world upside down. With it our day to day lives with so many stuck at home on furlough or working from home. Guys no wonder we don’t look our best after lockdown.

Being at home all these weeks has been, for some of us. A chance to relax and kick back which has been great for the most part. But let’s face it some of us have probably spent a little too much time cultivating the beard and sweat pants look.

Now all of a sudden a return to work looms on the horizon, and we have to change tack once again. It’s time to kick off the easy-wear fabrics, get a shave and get back into the corporate groove. But how to get motivated again? Read on for our advice. See how you can return to work looking as though lockdown was the best thing that ever happened to you. Guys, you can look your best after lockdown.

Freshen Up Your Skin

We’ve had plenty of sun this summer and some will be sporting a great tan, but the problem is that the sun, along with a more relaxed attitude to diet and exercise, may have done quite a bit of damage to your skin. Your facial skin will be drier and pores will be clogged making your skin look dull and lifeless.

Hydrofacial treatment

A Hydrafacial treatment is a gentle non-invasive skin resurfacing treatment. This cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates the skin leaving you looking much brighter, alert and ready to face anything. This is just one of the facial rejuvenating treatments we offer to men who want to look refreshed and to see noticeable improvements in their skin.

If you’ve really overdone it with the sun worship and you’ve caned the Deliveroo account you’ll have noticed that your skin may need a little extra work to un-clog the pores and de-toxify. A facial peel is incredibly effective at rolling back the years as they extract impurities from the skin and stimulate collagen production to give the complexion a good as new rosy hue.

Shave or No Shave?

If you’ve been cultivating a lockdown beard, the decision is whether to keep it or not. Beards are great when neatly trimmed but wet shaving is back so visit the barber’s for a professional wet shave treatment to enhance your new look.

Treating yourself to a little pre-work me-time can work wonders for your self-confidence. Knowing that you look as good as you can will give you that edge as you plunge back into the work place.

The Ultimate Guide to Shaving: Wet Shaving Explained

The Ultimate Guide to Shaving: Wet Shaving Explained

Have men lost the art of shaving or has it become more of a hassle to look smart for the office. Let’s face it, during the lockdown and working from home we have gone back to our caveman roots.

Long gone are the days when we visited the barber each week for a wet shave or beard trim. Are things set to change?

With the average man spending 3,000 hours during his life shaving, we need to get it right guys! So here are some tips to get that perfect shave.

Want to get a Close Cut Wet Shave like a Pro?

Wet shaving is not new, but it’s now on the comeback and guys are starting to see the benefits over dry shaving.

A close cut wet shave requires some skill. Let’s face it (pardon the pun), it’s a satisfying experience at the barber’s when they slap on the shaving cream and finish with the hot towel.

A proper wet shave should include these essential steps:

Pre-Shave

Middle-aged male disappointed and angry because of quality of new shaving foam
  1. Shower: Soften the hair and skin with warm water for a few minutes before you shave to make it easier for the razor to glide over your skin. Heat allows the pores to open and loosen the grip of each hair follicle allowing you to get a close cut and smoother shave. The same is achieved when your barber puts that hot towel on prior to shaving.
  2. Cleanse the face: This removes unwanted dirt, grime and dead skin that get in the way. A great way to do this is by exfoliating the skin. This is done by gently rubbing the skin using small circles.
  3. Apply shaving cream: If you are using a brush then don’t forget to pre-soak it. Natural hair brushes take a few minutes to absorb moisture. Create a lather with your shaving cream and brush in a circular motion to form a thick lather (this should take around 2 minutes, depending on your skill). Don’t forget to leave this foamy white beard you have created for at least 30 seconds to allow the hairs to soften.

Shave – The best bit!

  1. Shave: First, warm the razor either in the sink or under a hot running tap, this will help the blades glide over your skin. Shave your beard in the direction of the hair growth. Keep the blade at 30-degree angle to your skin at all times and follow the contours of your face. Don’t apply pressure, let it glide naturally, using short passes.
  2. Rinse regularly: Rinse your blades with warm water after every few strokes to keep your face moist and to stop excess foam and hair clogging up your blades. To get an even closer shave; re-lather and go against the direction of the hair.

Post-Shave – Smooth skin without irritation

  1. Rinse: Clean your face with warm water. However, don’t use the water in the sink as this will have your stubble, soap and dead skin cells in it. You want to cleanse the skin. Using the same water may cause skin irritation.
  2. Rinse Again: Yes you read it right. This time use cold water to close your pores and help reduce any nicks as well as reducing signs of irritation and redness.
  3. Pat: No, not Postman Pat! Pat your face dry with a clean towel, but do not rub.
  4. Moisturise: Soothe and hydrate your skin after shaving by applying a moisturising post-shave product.

Don’t use alcohol-based aftershaves directly after shaving as this can cause dryness and inflammation. If you are going to use an alcohol-based cologne, then place it at the back of your earlobes, wrists or back of the neck; those erogenous zones.

If all you remember about a wet shave is heat and moisture, then you’re onto a winner.

Still not sure whether to adopt wet shaving or dry shaving as your main method? Why not try both or visit us for a skin analysis to see which method may benefit your skin and how a hydrofacial can help. Place the power back into your hands, and make shaving enjoyable again!
